Gino’s “SixPiece Mini Big Band” is composed of six highly trained jazz musicians who know  “all the tunes.”   The trumpet leads the way with the melody, followed by harmonies of the trombone, and hot saxophone licks assisted by the instrumental colors of the piano, the pulse of the bass, and the beat of the drums.    Along with a P. A. for amplification, these six musicians sounds like a wall of big band sound.  The beat and rhythm make you want to get up and dance.

The piano, bass, drums, and three horns form the six piece mini big band.  Our charts (sheet music) are written in the “big band era” tradition.  Our instrumental style is perfect in playing all the various ballroom dance steps. In addition, we play the great charts of renown bandleaders of the 20th Century.  To add pop/rock & more current music to our repertoire, we add a female vocalist and/or a singing guitar player.  Although we do not play “covers,” we do play the music that makes you get up & dance!

If the big band swing era of the thirties and forties is your choice, we can achieve this sound by reading the original published sheet music of such renown band leaders as GlennMiller/DukeEllington/BennyGoodman/CountBasie/HenryMancini/WoodyHerman/ SamNestico/TommyDorsey/FrankSinatra to name a few.  By adding two alto saxophones to the existing six musicians, “Gino’s SixPiece Mini Big Band,” we form an eight musician swing band that can play all the tunes. The band’s instrumentation is divided into three sections: 

Rhythm Section piano, string bass, drum set

Brass Section trumpet & trombone

Saxophone Section tenor & two alto saxophones

Besides the increase in instrumental voices & music texture, these eight musicians and our female vocalist (optional) give an authentic representative performance of the 20th Century swing & dance music.
